This brother also had a 2002 Mini Cooper that he wanted to get rid of, so he and Connor installed a new fuel pump and then he offered to sell it to Connor for $500. Connor told us that he really wanted it so he can have a project car and he could fix it up. I told John that we should take it to get a pre-purchase inspection before we made any decisions, but John and Connor went to go look at it, and that night they brought it home.
This mini was stripped of everything inside because the previous owner was using it for racing, so it was in rough shape. For a several weeks we BEGGED Connor to do something on the car or do ANYTHING on the car to fix it up, but we quickly realized that he was not interested in putting forth any effort.
So, we took it to a mini mechanic to see what work was needed for it to become a daily driver, and they came back with a list costing $8k, and installing the airbags was an additional $3k. We quickly started to regret our decision, so we asked the mechanic if he knew anyone who would want to take this off our hands and he wanted it. So, he paid us $750 which almost covered the cost of everything we put into it. We were just grateful to get it out of our garage and hopefully it was a learning lesson for Connor!
